Singapore National Library Competition - Singapore
Projects / Public
Location Singapore
As a short-listed competitor for the Singapore national Library, the firm submitted a comprehensive design submission to a brief specifically determining the needs to house the national collection well into the twenty-first century. The building was based upon providing a welcoming place, transparent in design, with ease of access and movement throughout the collection, and incorporating sustainability principles in all manners of design and construction. A sophisticated structural system was developed that incorporated the mechanical, electrical, and ICT systems in a manner that provided long term flexibility for growth and change.
The double layer glass faced was proposed to include translucent wording of historic texts and poetry in the four languages employed in the literature in the country. Open terraces and green gardens were to provide respite from the interior for those spending long periods in use and research.
