Ainslie Fire Station - Canberra
Projects / Public
The Fire Station consists of an Engine Bay to house three fire emergency vehicles, flanked on the east side by offices and living quarters and on the west side by sleeping quarters and amenities.
A walled courtyard at the street elevation provides a sunny and private area for rest and recreation. The station yard at the rear of the building has been configured to provide for vehicular movement, parking and training activities.
The project was the recipient of a Metal Building Merit Award, an Excellence in Building Award from the Master Builders’ Association, and a Canberra Medallion from the ACT Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. These awards acknowledge that building projects do not have to be large or expensive to attain design excellence, and that often it is the smaller projects which can explore new and innovative ways of creating our built environment.
