AusAid Building for Dept of Foreign Affairs & Trade – Canberra

The new headquarters for AusAid (now DFAT), is located on Canberra’s main ‘ring’ avenue, London Circuit, at a position removed from the city centre.

The building is therefore marked and the entry located by an arrangement of horizontal and vertical metal sunscreens that are equally effective due to the specific orientation. The design has been rated at 5 stars and the building was cited at its opening in as the ‘Commonwealth’s Greenest Building’. The efficient near-square plan of six storeys totals 11,000m², and the building has three basements of services and parking.
